I am going to my first trackday on the 26th at Blackhawk. First, is anyone else planning on going? and second I was planning on riding there. Do you think this is a good idea? I figure I can load a bag with all the stuff I need and chain it to a pole while I'm not around. I do have a full size truck, but man, if I don't have to spend the money on gas to get there, it would be nice. Suggestions?

youre doing trackdays but dont want to spend the money on gas to get to the track????

Only question I have is..what happens if you ball it up? How are you getting home?

I second what everybody else said. I did my first ever track day at Autobahn. And rode down there, I was exhausted afterwards. I cant remember how I rode home I was so exhausted. Let me know what other events you plan on going too since West Chicago is close to Bartlett, I would pay for gas if you take my bike.

Thanks for the advice, I forgot about the ride home, I'll take my pickup there. As, for my plans for the rest of the year, I am going to try to do the once a month Blackhawk days this season. They are all during the week, but I'll ask around next time if anyone else wants come with. It really wasn't so much an issue of $ for gas, I just like riding the bike on trips like that.

I've ridden home from a track day..once. I was almost falling asleep at the controls and once it got dark, the temps dropped and really started sucking.

I then got a trailer hitch on the car. I'm not saying it can't be done, but you need to have a contingency plan in case you crash or are just too dang tired to ride home.

Truckin' up there is definately a better idea.

of course, i look to do things differently..
.
in the 4 years that i have ridden track days (about 10 per year), i have ridden my bike to the track all but once and that was because i KNEW it was going to rain and Road America is 130 miles away..
.
to me, it just one nice motorcycle ride, which i would rather be doing than just about anything else..
.
dragging a trailer around just isn't for me.. (my friend trailered my bike to RA)
.
that said, i only do 5 or 6 track sessions for the day.. (leave early) and i ride in the intermediate group.. (not slicks) .... i agree with the theory that when you are tired, motorcycles driven fast on a track is a bad idea.. and a receipe for disaster..
.
thankfully, my gixxer 1000 hasn't bucked me off yet, so i haven't needed a ride home..yet..

riding a bike to the track is not the best idea. even towing your bike to the track alone is kinda shitty. there have been a couple of times when we were leaving and people are looking for someone to drop their buddies truck and trailer in rockford because that is where the ambulance took them. there are plenty of nice people out here. make a friend and share a trailer.
