How many hobbies do you have?:laughing My grandpa used to fly (RIP) all the time, it can get expensive, especially if you crash em' They are like couple hundred bucks for a cheap one and the remotes are like 200+ bucks too.

I was considering getting a RC Heli, My problem with RC's that I would need to stick with electric because I know I'd end up getting lazy and not maintaining a Nitro engine properly.

heli's kinda suck, very hard to control (not that planes aren't), and just kinda limited. Electric anything is even worse unless you plan on doing it indoors in the winter.

I know all about RC planes like I said I used to fly them and have 2 and 1 sail plane currently that are sitting in my attic. I'd like to get with an instructor again though because I'm sure I'll be extremely rusty. I don't believe the club I used to fly with is around anymore.

As far as hobbies lol not that many:

Trackdays
Martial Arts
Football
Xbox
Dog stuff
RC planes
50's
car stereo
home audio/video
carpentry

You can never have enough hobbies.

Used to be into it big after I moved back to WI. Used to fly with a buddy at teh local club field (members were allowed 1 guest 'pilot' at a time). I never joined them due to them being more stuck up old timers who looked down on anyone who didnt use a taildragger. Planted a few into the ground. Still have 1 just for kicks. Got into ducted fan r/c and its a BIG money pit. When I pretty much stopped flying on a reg basis I had a F-105 Thunderchief with a Rossi.91 ducted fan. The flight line steward made eveyone else land before letting me take off. Its bad juju having a ducted fan model doing 100-140 with some guys .40 doing 40 flying at teh same time. :laughing Was a handful having to deal with an 8ch radio. Was sad watching it leave in teh back of the guy who bought its pickup.:(

Whats even more nuts is when you come in for a landing, flip the retract switch and then notice the gear ISNT DOWN.:laughing Then right when you line up to the "ya know its coming" crash landing teh gear pops down right when you start thinking on how much $$$ this will cost about 10' above the ground. Was trying to get it slowed to near stall within 2' of the ground to minimize it.

Or this is even funnier. Was carrying the plane (well about as easy as you can carry something thats 80" long and has a 44" wingspan) from my truck to the field. Retracts were retracted (I had a cradle for it in the truck that I could strap it down) and was carying the radio in one hand by the bar across teh top of it. Apparently I didnt realise that I switched the planes reciever power on and the apparently somehow the retracts servo activated. If you ever seen how fast some of these pop out, think about getting one slammed in the nads. :laughing

Yeah, I used to fly a bit as well. Have a Tower hobbies trainer 40 and Starfire 40 in my basement. I remember when I crashed my first trainer, apparently the battery in the plane was minutes from dying. Took off fine, did a flew around the field a few times then I lost all control. The plane did a few circles before it smashed into the ground in a 5' high blaze of balsa wood :laughing. I want to get back into it again, but I got into motorcycles, which directly conflicts with the flying season.

LOL. I went through my fair share of trainers also... 1st crash- flying at schiller woods there's one tree that sticks out from the rest if you land heading west... I miss judged and and clipped a branch. 2nd crash someone turned on, on the same freq. as me and the damn thing full throttle dive bombed off into the woods. Found the plane in a tree and the motor about 4" into the dirt.

I just learned the flying field in naperville is like 5 blocks from my house so I'm definitely getting back into this!

Crazy got into building and flying these planes. they look pretty damn nice too.

Car stereo is a hobby? What exactly do you do with your car stereo that makes it a hobby? :)

I know that Wink used to. Gee I bet your suprised.

There is a field near you in Naperville. I don't recall where. There is one in Chicago on Irving Park near Cumberland, one in Palos Heights. There is one with a paved runway in St. Charles.

I keep staying away from that hobby. I don't need another hobby.

I'm into it....got 3-4 planes and a heli. I fly at the local high school by me. They don't mind and it's close. I just got a big warbird and a 3d plane this week. I'll be putting them together over the winter

cool. I think I'm going to run over to Al's today and pick up an indentical trainer to the one I have. I just don't trust it after sitting in my attic for 10 years lol. I should be able to get the motor going so all I'll need to buy is a radio cause I sold the one out of my old plane.
