Woman Killed In Motorcycle Crash On Lower Wacker
Three Others Injured When Harley Hits Cab
SLIDESHOW: Torrential Storms Flood Chicago

SLIDESHOW: Gay Pride Parade
SLIDESHOW: Cicada Invasion
(STNG) CHICAGO An Elk Grove Village woman who was a passenger on a Harley Davidson was killed and three others injured when the motorcycle slammed into a taxi on Lower Wacker Drive early Sunday.

About 2:30 a.m., the motorcycle was eastbound on Lower Wacker when a cab in the westbound lanes made a left turn onto North Garvey Court. The motorcycle slammed into the passenger side of the cab, according to Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford.

The passenger on the motorcycle, identified as Florence Nicioli, 44, of 350 Tonne Rd. in Elk Grove Village, died in the crash, according to a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Nicioli was pronounced dead at 5:08 a.m. at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, the spokesman said. Following the crash she was taken to the hospital in "extremely critical" condition, Langford said.

The driver of the motorcycle was listed in critical condition and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Langford said.

The taxi driver was in fair condition and his passenger was in serious condition, Langford said. They were taken to Northwestern Memorial.

Those on the scene Sunday morning, including nearby residents, described the intersection where the accident occurred -- West Wacker Drive and North Garvey Court -- as particularly treacherous, since some vehicles traveling westbound and turning south, as the taxi was attempting to do, disobey the turn on left arrow only signal.

"This is a very dangerous intersection," said Langford, who was at the scene. "It's a corner that's hard to see."

The passenger side of the taxi, a Buick from Shawn Cab Co., was badly damaged and a pool of blood ran from the site of where the cab and motorcycle collided to the curb about a half-hour after the accident Sunday morning.

It was unknown if either person on the Harley was wearing a helmet, but there were no helmets on the scene following the accident.

cab drivers are insane, i just rode down i55 and all along lake shore drive, it was a great ride but i was lookin out for cab drivers like no tomorrow. no blinkers, fast drivers, completely unpredictable. I take that back, they are predictable. Because anytime youre by a taxi, they WILL cut you off and just not give a shit.

Yeah, I have to cut through downtown one day and week, and on that day I have to rev the hell out of the engine to get those fuckers to not hit me on Adams. As you said, they just go where they want without signals and without looking, you have to have freaking Spiderman senses to avoid these assholes.

F. You cab drivers. Learn F'in ENGLISH and how to drive!!!!!:fuck:

rip to the passenger...

yet another reason i wont ride i the heart of downtown anymore...its gotten too stupid and dangerious for us

F. You cab drivers.
:2cents: I've found it's pretty easy to read cabbies after a while.. they ride a lot like motorcyclists-- always looking for an opening or fast lane. Also, I've learned to watch the fare light and the sidewalk. Open cab on Michigan Ave + people standing on the sidewalk = swerve, every time.

Overall, they are more predictable than your random city driver. Despite potentially impaired English skills, they do communicate ;). I've had cabs wave me by when there's room, or wave acknowledgement when I point to a space I'm going for. I'd much rather be in a swarm of cabs than phone-weilding princesses in oversized SUVs. :robewizar

Turning left like this guy though.. unforgivable.

July 2, 2007 - A Wood Dale man was charged Monday with drunk driving offenses for slamming his Harley Davidson into a taxi on Lower Wacker Drive, killing his 44-year-old passenger.

Edward Colby, 38, of Wood Dale, was charged with reckless homicide, aggravated DUI resulting in death and DUI, according to police News Affairs. About 2:40 a.m. Sunday, Colby was driving a motorcycle eastbound on Lower Wacker when a cab in the westbound lanes made a left turn onto North Garvey Court. The motorcycle slammed into the passenger side of the cab, according to Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford. The passenger on the motorcycle, Florence Nicioli, 44, of 350 Tonne Rd. in Elk Grove Village, died in the crash, according to a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. She was pronounced dead at 5:08 a.m. Sunday at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, he said.
Nicioli originally was taken to the hospital in "extremely critical" condition following the crash, Langford said.

Colby was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he remains in "stable" condition as of about 7:20 p.m. Monday, according to News Affairs.

The taxi driver was in fair condition and his passenger was in serious condition, both at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Langford said.

Court information for Colby was not available Monday night.

Interesting turn of events... now its a DUI and laundry list of charges against the rider. Cabbie getting away scott-free on this one?

...only in Chicago!!

I'm surprised the bike managed to do enough damage to the cab to put both driver and passenger into such bad condition. This is two of my least favorite things colliding, so I don't know which to be more upset at- the stupid drunk Harley rider, or the dumbass cabbie who pulled out in front.

Eddie was a good friend to my brother and he was like a brother to me. He was always sweet. The reason I say was is because they lost touch. He was always a show off so I'm sure that had something to do with it. He has done some stupid stuff but no matter what I will always remember him as a great guy. Cab drivers in the city are morons anyway. They don't think about anything other then the money they can send back home!
GOOD LUCK EDDIE... I know you are gonna need it.

Be upset at the intoxicated Harley rider for doing 80 mph in a 30 mph zone and eliminating any chance to stop in case of a cabbie pulling out in front of him.
