Offhand, I don't know how to advance or retard timing on a bike with points. If it's anything like a car it's super easy either way.

How much is a transistorized ignition for a dirtbike? Maybe $30 I'm guessing? Screw checking point gap and filing down burnt points on the side of the road. Blah!

And I wondered why you had to step on the rear brake to crank Maynards bike. This explaines it all. Ghetto fix FTW!!!
UPS man is dropping off a box 'o parts toady. I get to take shit apart this weekend. Yea!

FTR Maynard is a firm opponent of 2-wheeled ghetto fixes. The truck is a different story. I'll fix that bitch with duct tape and coat hangers if I have to.

if you spend $250 you get a 250 dollar motor. if you're thinking budget just do a basic 88 kit on your fiddy and be done with it. good grunt, reliable as hell, not so crazy that you kill yourself on it when drunk. What makes honda 50s so great is their indestructability, stick a hunk of crap motor in it and you lose that reliability. Just my 2 cents. If budget is an issue, basic 88, maybe a carb, uni filter, and HD clutch springs.

sounds like you realy know your shit with these 50's. budget isn't realy an issue just can't justify spending $500 on motor and parts to install when the bike is only worth about $500. i can live with dropn around $250 and taken a small hit when i sell the thing.

will the clutch jold up for a long time with hd springs? what would the next part in line be to fail due to the 88cc kit?

stock clutch with HD springs will hold up to lots of abuse, especially with just the basic88. i'd say you'd get lot of life out of it unless you're doing 3rd gear burnouts all the time. FYI, stock honda 50 motors in good shape can net you close to $300 on ebay. I shit you not.
