I was just at my dealer inquiring about how much it would cost to put on a full micron serp, K&N filter, and jet kit. He told me roughly $350-$400. This sound reasonable to you or does it seem a little high?

Thanks in advance.

$400 for a full micron exhaust, K&N, and jet kit?

Is that just for parts or installation also? If he told you installed, I would say that is a great price. However, will he dial in the jet kit accurately and if there is a problem...fix it free of charge?

The jet kit is $100, the full exhaust has to be over $300, and I don't know about the K&N.

Question: Is it harder to dial in the jet kit without the exup? Would you loose performance by putting an aftermarket full system w/o exup or does the Micron system have the exup-like system to it? Just curious.

Doc: thanks for the reply. The $350-$400 is just to install all the stuff. I am very very mechanically inept, so my dealer is the only place to go. The Full Micron is going to run $800, the jet kit about $100 and the K&N for around $130. He recommended doing all three of these at the same time so they can dial it in correctly. He told me the micron system has a exup like system. He said of all the full sytems he has installed on R1's, the Micron by far was the best.(even better than an akra.) He said with all 3 of these components put on at once, it will be jetted perfectly, no lull at any range. Of course he could be blowing smoke, but hey he knows more about it than me.

He also suggested getting a RAM air kit too.:evil

Hey, you might want to check www.r1-forum.com/forums/ to see what they have to say. I know my R6 board has proved extremely valuable in cases such as this.

For instance, the K&N filter on an R6 is pointless because the stock is just as good and the K&N makes it extremely hard to dial it in. So, you might want to check it out to make sure he isn't blowing smoke up your ass.:D

here is my BEST advise.

DO NOT>>>DO NOT>>> do a full system on a r-1...lacking that Xup vaulve will make such a low dip in the mid range it isnt funny....i have seen 4 dyno charts from r-1s with and without the exup...WITH IT still on and just a slip on..i see the best power curves.

my suggestion is...talk to jim at 4&6 and make sure..you get everything explained....WHAT will be and WHat will be done for your best bang for buck.;)

the slip on you CAN do, installing the air filter...a monkey can do.

installing a jet kit...not bad to do.
CORRECTLY dialing it in....PRICELESS!!

IF you still want to go with your guy...make sure he has a EDDY dyno, dyno to run it on...if not get ready to have a few extra ponies that isnt there. DYNO running and TUNING is the ONLY WAY to correctly PERFECT the jetting...if not...your wasting your time and money

Thanks Odd and Doc. I saw a dyno on an R1 with a full akra.... 17 extra ponies. I understand what your saying tho. It is no secret that Yammy stock exhausts are extremely restricted. Thats why I wanted to put on a full instead of a slip on.

Doc: Im a post whore over on R1-forum.com:jester

Odd: Can you send that monkey over? :rofl

I would talk to jim first at 4 and 6 , the guy can tune shit to run like you wouldnt believe. Now ask him for advice between the full system. and the slip on. most of your restriction is usually in the can. the rest is usually just reduced from going to a bigger diameter header. sometimes thats not always needed. What ever you buy bring it over to my house and we'll put it on the you can ride over to 4 and 6 for a tune and you will be all set. If your ordering over the internet, you can have it shipped to my place and then you can just ride over with out having to carry everything.

I only charge 20 bucks an hour for labor. Most shops charge much more for the same work.
