Cherry got my head going, telling me how he just ordered a back protector...and you know what.,....I THINK EVERYONE SHOULD GET ONE....we protect our head, jacket with armor to protect the joint, boots to protect the lower part of the legs.

DUHH what about our back...I know a few of us have them......but I think its time for everyone to get one, as you know with Andy accident, I am sure it would have helped...any help is better then non.

I don't think these piece of shit hard foam pads in our jackets for back protecting will cut it.

SO PLEASE get your self hooked up and protect your self some more.!

I remember seeing him with one back on a ride in March but I can't remember if it was his or he was just trying on Cherry's

Yes it will fit under the Phoenix....even with their little foam insert. I took mine out.

That bimoto place Steve mentioned is great...talk to Frans.

I think I paid :confused $120 shipped to my door with duties.

Much cheaper than getting it locally. I got mine in 3 days from Belgium.

Thanks John,

It would probably save you from an impact but our spines are still fragile. No telling what one quick twist can do:( :(

Lupi and I both have full back length protectors fro Tecnic. I like it and hope I never have to test it.

I agree back protectors are a must....but they arn't an imunity item. they help lessen the damage mainly from slidding on the pavement.....they soften the impact when you hit something, say a car or guardrail. at race speeds or highway speeds they offer very little protection (say you hit a tire berrier at 90mph...you won't just bounch off...you will do some damage) but in a lsow speed lowside or minor get off...they may be the differance between you getting back on the bike in a few days vs you riding around in a motorized wheelchair.

just my experiance......from what Ive seen both at the track and picking up kids on the highway:(

Also... the armored style will help in the event of a puncture-type impact. (something I didn't think of when I got mine)

That's one thing the Bohn or Knox, won't do well. But it's more comfortable, cooler and provides better impact protection and it also has realyl godo tailbone protection. FOr now on you'll usually see me with a little white tail sticking out of my jacket. I migth even start wearing just the BP to work over my clothes.

Flesh and bones heal, but you brain and spine don't.

This most rescent crash really was a major reality check for me and think for a lot of us. I'm not going ot significantly change the way I ride, but I am going to do a much better job of minimizing my risk.

Ducman always wore a Bohn BP on the street.

1. As many of you know, I don't get on the bike without my Knox.
2. The Knox fits under all my gear, but I normally need to remove the "factory" pad first or the jacket rides up to high and I can't turn my head. With the pad removed, it fits great under my Phoenix jacket and the race leathers.
3. Bad Steve, you know the Bohn is a rip off of the Knox. Spend the extra $10 bucks and honor the guy who did the work to develop it vs. one that is just ripping off a good idea.
4. Ummm, I didn't want to post this before as I though the timing would be bad or it would be in "bad taste". Andy is a Brother and I wouldn't want to say anything to hurt or dis him. That said, I am pretty sure he didn't have a spine protector. The last time I was out with Andy which was about 4 weeks ago with Steve, he didn't have a back protector. After Steve split we got to talking about it, as his Vanson jacket didn't even have the "factory" pad in it. Basically, my last conversation with him was that with the way we/he rides he really should spend a few bucks and get one as he really has no protection and that you don't want to mess with a spinal injury. You have no idea how many times I've replayed that short conversation in my mind and wondered what if... And if I should have pushed harder. I really hope I'm wrong and he went out and got one and that he gets up and walks around because he had it.
5. Buy and wear a F-ing back protector and all the necessary gear. Trust me, I worked in an ER for almost 5 years. You do not want to look like some of the guys and gals I've seen. More importantly, you don't want to feel like them. Even with all the gear, we are still so exposed it isn't funny. Give yourself a fighting chance. Just do it.

There, I got that off my chest. I really hope I didn't say anything to offend, but the whole back protector thing just keeps running in my mind and since it was already brought up I went with it...

See ya,

Bruce:(

You guys are totally right.

I'm gonna get a BP. I've been putting it off and putting it off, the soft foam in there now isn't gonna do jack.

Probaby get a Bohn or Knox due to the tailbone protection. I've heard that the Knox isn't good after its absorbed an impact (like our helmets). Is that true??

I would prefer something that doesn't need replacing evertime I crash....which seems to be getting more frequent ;-)

Mark,

I've heard that too. My basic understanding is that at impact the closed cell structure that redirects the energy sideways into the material doesn't fully expand afterwards. My opinion is that if I hit hard enough to do that I'm not sure I want to wear it again and I got my $175 out of it. If you are interested, I saw the newest baddest product out. Nicky and Collin are wearing it. It is a combination back and chest protector. Great for the track. It's all custom fitted for you. They send you a demo so you can send in exact measurements. Way cool, but sounds hot for the street. $250 with fitting, your name and logo. Let me know if you want the information.

TKS I'd def. like the info! I've broken several ribs before and if there is anything to protect me from going through that anymore I'm all about it! Does it go on over or under your leathers?

$250 is pricey... but I'd like to take a look.
