The other thread was getting too long and I wasn't sure if people would see this info so I'm starting a new one.

Take some time and answer the poll and lemme know if any of these choices are ones that you're interested in or post if you know of better choices or deals.

Here's what I've found so far. People have been giving the thumbs up on the Knox gear so I took a look at their stuff on http://www.planet-knox.com/

Their USA distributor is Teknic.

I gave a shout to DanO since his store is listed as part of Teknic's dealerships

He gave the following prices for a group buy of 15

$125
http://www.teknicgear.com/pages/collections/accessories/tour_spine_guard.html

$148.09
http://www.teknicgear.com/pages/collections/accessories/kc2000_x1_spine_guard.html

and then if we want to go cheap he threw these in for consideration as well

$44.35 for the 7 link and $30.67 for the 4 link.
http://www.teknicgear.com/pages/collections/accessories/4_7_link.html

so we have to decide which one we want because I don't think a mix & match applies here for the 15.

Bohn...please:)
Hey Keith,

any recommendations on model? price?
any technical reasons for Bohn? is it better? more comfortable? ....
I would try getting the dianese if i were paying $120+

That teknic 7 looks OK.for the price. but, is that right ? $44
i guess you get what you pay for.
I hate to say it because I know I shouldn't skimp on gear, but the 7 link backprotector by Tecknic is too cheap to pass up. Especially, w/ the money being tight nowadays.

Doc
I'm really happy with the Bohn I have (Knox rip off). I don't plan on testign it, but it is pretty comfortable under my jacket.

I have a cheap backprotector that's good for track days. I might even just give it away... but I'd like at least $10 or something. I wore it 4 times. I'll bring it to Gratton. It's a lot better than nothing. It just didn't feel very comfortable on me.
I will take the cheap one for me also, Teknic 7

I'm interested in the impact armor that Bruce posted :http://www.impactarmor.com/

For a little more money than a Knox/Teknic you get:

1.) Custom sized for you!

2.) Armor is removable/replaceable

3.) Optional chest protector

4.) Nicky Hayden, Colin Edwards, and Troy Corser race with them. Racer tested and approved.

prorace long/short back protector $169 or carbon/kevlar race $139 the latter is a little thinner than the prorace. I wore the prorace at my last RA trackday (rented from Monte) and loved it...never even felt like I had it on...very comfy. those prices are the standard prices...don't know if we could get a group buy discount.

I think in a crash the soft armor type is a lot better. The stuff VTR mentionsed got great reviews in the mags and I think you can get you name embroidered on it for a minimal charge.

I want ot know what Hacking and Yates wears. Both those guys are crash kings. especialy Hacking. They shouldn't even bother putting plastics on his bike.
another
carbon kevlar
i am in on whatever however i want mine before the 20th so if this is not going to happen before then let me know soon
I have the breathable version of the Bohn ProRacer... paid way too much for it but would buy it again. It's light and comfortable. I'm not sure how it would hold up in a puncture situation but it handled impact quite well.

I like the idea of chest protection, which is why I'll consider the custom impact armor for next year.

What they need to do is come up with an armored, air-conditioned undersuit!:helmet
opps here it is......I read up on this one.....you can soak this one in water and it wicks body heat away on hot days...pretty cool. doohhhhhh....no pun inteneded there:)
Description
Whether racing or riding on the street we know that a major issue is Heat. Protection, by definition adds bulk and usually insulation which makes those hot rides (and races) even hotter. So our new initiative - Bohn SYSTEMCOOL integrates materials that handle heat efficiently to make your riding cooler, more comfortable and safer. This is a new version of the ProRacer using an exclusive brand-new hi-tech breathable foam material, KonformAir. You can pour water through it, and in fact some racers may soak it before a race! Evaporative cooling will remove heat from your body as it evaporates. In addition to a unique color scheme and carbon-texture leather trim, in addition to solid carbon fiber which is set inder the spine and shoulder pads. Our Highest Protecting and Coolest Protector! Our first batch is in strictly limited quantities.

$199
That's the one! I'd never considered soaking it before... hmmmm.
Kim...you can also get the cool max shirt which is like $30 that was designed to soak in water keep you cool for quit awhile.
