Seeing as the $999 Rebel is way outta my league right now, I need some advice.

Here's the deal...I am writing articles for S3 Magazine and I need to provide my own pictures. My current digital camera (Cannon A200 Powershot) shoots at the lowest resolution I can submit for publishing (1600x1200). I am not trying to make photography (or writing for that matter) my living, but I want to provide quality images for the articles and have something I can use for family stuff too.

I have about $400 to spend and I need to have the camera by Saturday to cover an event for the magazine. I can get 5.0 megapixels in that price range, but I have no idea if they are good cameras. I have been reading some reviews and I know less now than when I started :rolleyes

Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

Your biggest limitation in this price range is going to be your lens and subsequently the range of photographs you are going to be able to take. If you have a knowledge of photography beyond snapshots, you can get good results if you stay within the abilities of the camera. Lighting and framing the shot well will be imperative, followed by focus and contrast.

I can't offer much advice on specific models in this price range.

Good luck!
