When Ken and I were putting my new tires on this weekend we noticed my rear sprocket was bad. Nobody had what I needed in stock. I have a Renthal 520 conversion kit on my bike now. I went to Renthal's website and found out that the sprocket was alluminum. I would prefer a light weight steel sprocket. All sprocket specialist rears are alluminum also. So....where can I get a 520/44 tooth steel sprocket? Am I being to finicky insisting on steel??

I would like to get it ordered today.

Thanks

Ask me again in a few thousand miles!:twofinger

You might want steel for your riding style, especially is you've already broken a tooth on a steel sprocket.

I didn't have much luck locating steel for the PM wheels and settled for aluminum. So far, so good.

I had the same problem with the 530 for the Busa. I could get steel only for the stock wheels and only one source I found even then.

Spent half the morning searching. I just ordered a replacement for the Renthal I had on there. I'll see how long that one lasts. If it sucks I'll convert it to a 530 kit.

Doh!!! I was just about to tell ya I did some searching and AFAM has what you are looking for. Their website is afamusa.com and from what I can tell they have both the 520 and the 530 in steel for the R1 listed at $46.95.

I'm not sure sprockecenter has them either. They're site is down and you need to send in inquiry to see if they have it.;)

I'm pretty sure I'm going to need to convert it back to get a steel one

CAll 1-888-FASTLAP. (Marrietta Motorsports) They can get you a Vortex Sprocket in 4-5 days. Keep in mind thouhg. You may need ot change the chain and sprockets at the same time if the chain has more than about 5000 miles on it.

43 tooth was the stock size. If you ordered another sprocket, getting one that is hard anodized is a gooid idea. I have a Renthal Titan tough on mine, but have heard lots of peoplebeing happy with the AFAMs. A worn out chain will wear your sprockets out faster too.

I ordered the Renthal annodized this afternoon. The chain was new at the beginning of the season. I think the chain is ok it's justs that the 520 sprocket got chewed up so quickly. I'm just changing the back right now. I'll keep an eye on it and when this one chews up I'll change the set up.;)
