What, you thought this is a post about a chick didn't ya. :laughing
Nope, it's a little story about Sunday, September 1 and why cheap bicycle racks suck.

I was going to Bode Woods to ride the 9 mile loop with my new Trek. I'm drivind down the 290 westbound at 70 when all of a sudden, BAM, and then i hear dragging. I look in my rearview and the only good thing i see is that the bike/rack is still attached to my car and not causing an accident on the highway. I pulled over quickly to assess the damage...

It turned out (the rack has 4 straps) one of the lower straps failed, the rack slipped of the bumper, then WHAM, drag city. It would have been better of with wrapping the bike in a blanket and throwing it into the trunk....

The rack of course is fucked. I can fix the strap, but that's like not learning you lesson. Rack is gone....

The bike...not too bad as i found out. The rack did most of the bumping and sliding. My side mirror shattered. I already got a new one. The back wheel got warped when it hit pavement sideways at 70mph. It took me 40 minutes of backyard tweaking, but it's pretty darn good, but not perfect like out of the factory.

The car...suffered three dents in the trunk (one nice long one), a cracked taillight, and a cracked Honda logo (the worst of all :D ). In retrospect, it would have been cheaper just to buy that hitch mounted rack i've been loooking at. I'm sure the $200 for the rack would be cheaper than the wonderful damage caused by when the bike fell.

My car's beat up externally anyhow, so i'm not fixing the additional damge. The Trek will live to ride another day, albeit with a few minor war wounds, and I'm just fucking glad to all hell that one strap stayed attached to my trunk lid and a mass of tubular steel did not cause on accident on the expressway.
