question about spark plug wires

Are all wires equal or is there something I should know before ordering??? also do you HAVE to replace the coils when you replace the wires? the reason I ask is because I believe one of the wires is cracked which causes a spark to jump across my heads but nothing is wrong with the coils I know this because the spark only shows after reving to 3k or above but idle at 1500 rpms no spark so I think it has to be wires and plugs but do I have to repalace a coil? the reason I ask is because the price diff is like $160 diff so if I can replace wires and plugs alone I am cool but otherwise I have to wait for another week or so to get back up.

I ask of my clsbn family for your advice again:D :twofinger

nahh you should be able just to get the wires...coils are spererate...and they kinda up the voltage i think? to the plugs.

DUDE i know you got tons of problems with it..and HEY we are here to help...but dude...maybe its time to have a pro work on it?

if after this wires dont solve the problem..maybe bite the bullet and give it to a shop...i hate to see you spend so much money and time on a guessing game.

well that is my plan but the prob I am having now is pretty self evident I got sparks dancing on my heads at high rpms from two of the wires but anyway if the wires don't help to the shop it goes. but I have to get it running well enough to make it to a shop (I don't have any other way to move it).:(
Screw the shop, just have Hatchet Andy fix it...I kinda like orphan bikes:laughing On the spark plug wires...forget the dealer...buy some bulk solid core (same type as on most bikes) and make 'em yourself. The ends unscrew and just replace the wire. I cant see this costing more than $20
On my '92 Gixxer the coil and two wires were in one piece so you had to change the coils.
andy you don't know how close I am to dropping it off on your doorstep with a note saying call me when it's ready and let me know what I owe you :laughing no but I may be ccalling on you sooner than I thought

I think I have a set of wires and coils for that bike I think they are one piece. Although aftermarket coils are not that expensive and are a great upgrade. Dyna has coils and wires. Let me look and see if I can find what I have and see if they are still in good shape, but they're just as old as your stuff so I can't promise anything.
Idea....I can pull off the coils wires from my bike (93 600) and let you try them to see if that is the problem BEFORE you lay down the cash perhaps? Just a thought.....they are the excell wires & excell coils, not stock ones....

If the sparks are jumping around the block Then he definitely needs the new wires. Those coils may require some cutting into the wire harness too. I don't think he's going to want to do that. Might as well get the whole set up from Dyna or Excell.
