I ask this because I feel that way right now. Out of all the bikes I could have bought I had to buy the one that is hardest to find parts for!!! and little to no aftermarket parts. I have ideas but it would cost me double to do them to my bike because everything (seems) to have to be custom. I have looked on katana planet and even there they complain about the market. I can find tons of after market for any other bike except my bracket which kinda pisses me off because the bracket spans so many years I mean I can use parts from any 600-750 kat (except 750 pistons larger) from 1988 - 1996 but then again what should I have expected buying a bike that is 10 years old. venting again ignore me (just trying to get my post numbers up:laughing ) unless I spen a testie and get the parts from zuki dealer. any one know of any bone yards around. got time now so I see my bike all day and want to get some things done.

Well, what parts are you looking for ? I bought the V&H exhaust mail order, (can't remember from who) and ordered alot of other little stuff from Mares cycle, on Odgen ave (next to deltasonic, a little west of DGY on the South side of the street)

I did new plugs/wires/coils/sprocket 3 teeth up in the rear/ignition advancer/exhaust & new tires from there...

Don't ask on the mirrors.....I figure I could make a fortune if I could design/market a newer mirror for the older kats..

Go trade that thing in and buy a nice used F3 or something. Good bikes handle well, and good power, plus the make all sorts of stuff for it.

yeah I saw that in wanted but honestly I would need like 2k for me to sell then I would still need like 3k to get something new and decent. if I could find something at a nice balance point I would sell the kat even though I really want to fix it up but with the way the parts market is wondering if it is more expensive to fix this one than what it is worth ???

All you needto do is find someone who has a good set of plastics for that thing sittin around. Get the carbs tuned and it will be fine. Then just continue to beat the crap out of it.

I also remember Mares cycle does plastic welding...(630-963-7720)...maybe you can get your panels repaired, and then a quick shot of plack paint ? Just a thought...

Sounds Crazy but sometimes JC Whitney Carries stuff for the older bikes. Might get a cheap set of Mayer plastic or something from them

Here's a crazy idea.

Find out if that block is the same as the gsxr 750 block. I know they made alot of those parts interchangeable. If it is I have a crank rods pistons and cylinder block that will make that bike a 750.

I did a Stats ride that you were on a month ago- that bike was spewing blue smoke out the exhaust, and seemed to need a lot of thing$$$ done to it cosmetically and mechanically...I'm sure you're already aware of those problems.

I'd cut my losses, not put a penny into it, and lose it as soon as possible. Never look back because the you'll never get the at least $1500 investment in return at resale time.

I don't know the motor is reasonably sound just have some carb issues but I have seen some go for almost 4k my estimates to get it up and running the way I want is a little less than 1.5k so I could be on a perfect bike for 3k total (1.5k which is already in purchase). the blue smoke was my fault I put in a little too much oil the morn of that ride it was blowing it off it does not smoke now but I will see if I come across a do-able deal I may cut it and run another bike but I bought this bike to learn on and beat the hell out of so as far as what I bought it for it is doing fine :laughing .

figured if I could make it last 2 years I am good and that is the main plan but if I can jump ship in less I will trust me.

If that's the difference than the 750 crank should fit in fine. The Cylinder block I have should solve the problem of fitting the bigger pistons without boring and re-sleaving and you should be all set.

think about it. Maybe yo should talk it over with your mechanic. We can take the parts with if you want so he knows exactly what's needed to make it work.

Yes, I agree- very few independents like him left. His son got a lot of the tools/lifts, and was planning on setting up a repair shop out of his garage. Somewhere in the nearby suburbs- not sure exactly where, but retail is gone for good.
