The full moon makes the cagers act wacky! (I was in a accident tonight)

When I saw the full moon tonight I knew the lunatics would be out in full force.

I'm usually alert and ready for anything when I'm on the bike, but sitting tonight at a red light in the right lane, the last thing I though would happen, was that the car sitting in the left lane would decide to make a right turn when the light changed green and cut me off. He was sitting past the white line and didn't see me, when he quickly accelerated and turned right, I was just accelerating myself... quickly started braking but he was right in front of me turning so I had to turn the handle bars right to avoid hitting him., which was a mistake but I don't see how I could have avoided it. The bike fell on the right side and I fell on my butt. Because the road was uneven the bike rocked back with so much force that the mirror just broke off.

He said he didn't see me, a young kid who had 3 others in the car with him. He knew it was his fault. We had to go and file an accident report and his insurance will be paying to fix my bike.

I'm surprised there is so little damage though, and the pipe is fine… thanks goodness.

I'm just a bit pissed because his maneuver was not something I expected at all. I'm even thinking that he bumped my front tire with the side of his car and pushed my bike down since I remember stopping and then all the sudden the bike was falling, I was already stopped by then.

Oh well, shit happens, damn cagers. Plus I have a huge bruise on my ass now. I was just getting ready to order some frame sliders too.

Here are some photos.

The plastics look fine, but the stikers are messed up, only in 3 places though.

Anna, I hate to be able to say this really, but, trust me, it could be worse, eh? I'm sorry to hear about your accident. I'm glad you're completely alright (aside from a sore ass--I know how it feels now) and I'm also glad you're bike's, uhm, still rideable and will be fixed. Later.
Anyway, I'm OK. I'm heading out for some R&R tomorrow, this unemployment is keeping me so busy, I'm going to take a week off and have some fun. I won't have access to a computer for about 5-6 days while I'm gone so don't think that I'm in the hospital or dead or something.

I figured since I couldn't get my bike out to Oregon for the big ride, I'm going to meet up with the group already in progress in Montana and drive the famous "RT 12 (Lolo Pass)" - 77 miles of twisties... it won't be as fun as on a bike, but the Acura RSX-S is a pretty fun car. I also get to see Glacier National Park in MT and the Mt. Rushmore in SD and take a million more pictures.

See ya next week!

I know, I'm pretty lucky. The bad thing about riding a lot is there are more possibilities for accidents. But now I have yet ANOTHER thing to be careful about….cages making right turns from left lanes :nono
Bummer that you had a crash, everyone gets a little whacky on a full moon! Good to see there is not much damage on the bike and you are ok. So what damage was done to the car?

Wow we were just talking about that whole being aware and periphial vision thing. Sometimes, unfortunately it still happens. Glad your OK.
OUCH Anna, what a night. I'm glad that you too walked away from the night of the living crashes. Good thing the bike just needs some stickers, give you yet another reason to add some wacky colors to it!

HEY, keep the broken mirror piece for track days. That's what I did with mine for easy mirror removal. Just took off the mirror and put on the broken one.

Have fun on your vacation!
Ciao,
Lupi
That sucks. Hard to see that comming if he doesn't even use a turn signal. Without seeing skid marks and his car it's hard to say what happened to make the bike fall, but it was definitely his fault. Not much you can do. If you were going slow you may have just lost you balance and fell over at 5mph. The scrapes on the fairing are short, you couldn't have been doing more than 10mph when it fell over.
I usually look for a lesson from every accident but that is so bizarre I can't imagine being prepared for it. I guess that accident can best be explained by: Sh*t Happens.

My guess would be turning away from him at a slow speed when simultaneously locking the front brake throwing the bike on it's side.

It's ok, the goal is to avoid slamming into the car, or worse, getting underneath it. No matter what a collision with a moving vehicle or a stationary object is to be avoided if at all possible.

Definately sounds like his fault but be prepared for it to take 6 months or more to settle this. Hopefully your insurance will cover it and go after his so that you get your deductible back.

You DID call the police and get an accident report, right?
Ouch. Sorry to hear about the mishap. Glad you are OK. The bike isn't bad from what we see.

So does unemplyoment give vacation and benefits now.:twofinger

I remember graduating and spending 2 months looking for a job. Oh the stress and long hours sitting behind my computer on Monster.com.:rolleyes :jester :jester

Interviews aren't work. I got a free 2 day, 2 night trip to New York City, a overnight stay in Memphis, and Chicago.

If being unemployed is more work and keeps you busier than your previous job... that's not a real job, It's like working for Ameritech or something.:thumbsup
Ow! Poor bike... Glad you're okay. Hope you have a GREAT time out west - looks like a FANTASTIC route!!!

did you expect that after my crash in april? That's what happened, only I was in the correct lane and just as I thought something fishy was gonna happen, splat! no time to think, just react. :( I don't trust anyone in a car period on my bike...not after that.

At least your okay and it's not as bad as my bike or what looks like what's left of max's. :( that sucks.

I hate cagers!!!! :mad
Glad you're ok. Have a good trip.
(I'm still waiting for my laundry to get done, so I have some time to kill before I can leave.)

To answer some questions:

There was no damage to the car, I'm not sure he even touched me, I was almost stopped when the bike fell, I was braking and turning away from the car at the same time though. The car might have tapped my front tire, I only had a foot of distance to stop and I couldn't go anywhere else because the curb was there. I know the big mistake was that when we were sitting at the red light, he was further up then me, crossing the white line, even though I was next to him, I was stopped properly in front of the white line, I probably should have pulled up right next to him, but seriously............I NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS WOULD HAVE THOUGH THAT WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED TO GREEN, HE WAS GOING TO GUN THE GAS, TURN THE STEERING WHEEL SHARPLY AND ATTEMPT TO TURN RIGHT FROM A LEFT LANE. If I was a car, he still would have not seen me. I would have stopped on 4 tires and not have any damage done to my vehicle, but because I was on a bike, stopping so suddenly and trying to avoid the car made the bike unstable. I am 100% confident that I did all I could. I just wished I could have stopped the bike and not let it drop.

I'm green - the cage is red in the diagram.

Ah, I was right... the bruise is ripe today, it's also the size of a bagel... that will really look nice with my swimming suit :rolleyes
