These things are nice! I was curious about the interior and went to the local dealer. They had a fully loaded 07 and the salesman just tossed me the keys and let me and the Gf go for a ride.
Almost had me thinkin of trading the Tundra in! I thought it'd be nice to have more interior space to keep my gear out of the rain and elements, and get a little better MPG when I'm not hauling bikes.
Unfortunately, no nav, leather, or heated seats. I did like the parktronic system, in some ways its better than the backup camera on my truck. The audio system was better too.

Has anyone had one of these things long-term? What kind of MPG do you get in the real world? Any issues?

I've had mine for about a year now. It's a fun truck. I get close to 20MPG.

It's not the best for passengers. The back seat doesn't have a lot of room and it can be a pain for people to get in and out. The rear windows don't roll down.

Otherwise I like it a lot. The 4.0L is powerful enough for me. I've towed a small open trailer with two ATVs and it does okay but I probably lost a good 5 or 8 MPG.

A lot of people complain about rock chips in the paint and windsheild. I have a couple chips on the paint but haven't had a problem with the windsheild yet.

All-in-all I like it and would buy another one. It's not perfect by any means, but I enjoy driving it and like it for the way I use it.

20MPG? that's not bad. Is that all highway, or a mix of city highway?

I'm currently lucky to get 18MPG all highway with the Tundra. If I roll up the cover and haul a bike, it's usually about 16. If I'm towing a trailer its 11-12. I'm trying to determine if it'd be a wash since I can use regular v. Premium that the FJ requires.

Yeah, sounds about the same. The FJ is a brick with that upright windsheild, so I'm not sure I've noticed any significant change between freeway at 75 and city driving. I haven't checked in a while, but my mileage is normally in the mid to high 19s.

Keep in mine Rob I heard that you have to use Premium fuel on the FJ. Also heard, but this was from hummer guys so it was biased, that the frames crack easily in heavy off roading.

Looks like Jack has some fun in his though! Those are awesome pics
Holy old thread batman! I was actually looking at this today too. The urge to get an FJ struck again last night. I would like more space for my gear, and you can get one with a DIY gearbox. I'm not a big fan of automatics. The Tundra was the first auto I've ever owned. Call me a control freak, but I don't like the chip picking my gears damnit.

It is a totally irrational urge, since my Tundra is SUPER practical and pretty pimp; nav, DVD, backup camera, remote start, heated leather, the works.

I know about the premium. As far as fuel costs, it be almost a wash. I'm looking at maybe 2-3 mpg more, but paying .20 more per gallon.

I don't really do all that much offroading, I'm just a big poser. :laughing: I'd just stick a Moto-tote on it go to the track.

You'll likely need stiffer springs or a helper bladder in the back when using the moto-tote. I need one with the DRZ on back. The back sits down a bit, enough to raise the headlights too much. On my long trips, I've adjusted the lights down.

FWIW, I don't run premium.

I still dig the truck. It doesn't have all the nice options. But with enough money you can get full leather, sun roof, etc. The stock tires have been fine, but since day one I wish I had gotten the BFG ATs, if nothing else, for looks and mud traction.

I'm pretty sure the FJ is going to be my wife's next car. I personally hated the looks when they first came out, but it's starting to grow on me. I still don't love it, but I don't hate it anymore.

FYI, I got full leather heated seats on my Scion tC for I think around $1700. You can find it cheaper I bet, but I didn't want to drop the car off after I bought it, so I went through the dealer.

I love all this retro stuff.

The FJ trips my trigger. If they had it available with a little diesel, I think I could get the wife into one. I know she likes them.

Just found out that TRD makes a supercharger for it. Sweet.

The new TRD is :1pimp

I dig that truck. I dig it much.

The TRD is nice, but I like the retro looks of the white top and I love the blue.

The mods are endless. If I didn't put on so many miles I'd probably mod the heck out of mine.

Just got back from the dealer and picking up my Tundra. For grins I'm gonna have the local dealer run some numbers on a 6-speed on Wednesday. They've got a lightly used 07 on the lot that could probably get at a steal, but its auto and yellow. :barf

It's a six speed for the manual? Really!

Yeah, I've had manuals and they're sporty, but I'm old now and sitting in traffic with a manual, sucks. Besides, I hope to get out to Colorado with the FJ this year and when climbing a mountain or rock crawling the last thing I want to worry about is fanning the clutch.

Really? Most people who do a ton of offroading prefer a manual trans...it certainly offers more control. Those pictures you posted are intense...I'm not sure if I'd be down for that.
