I got this a few days ago as well. I did the research and it seems that this is separate than anything related to the state. The fuckin cook county board passed the law in November of last year scheduled to start in March of 2012. This is so ridiculous. I bought a used ducati, in march, didnt like it and sold it then bought R6 and used it for the season and sold it. Now I hve a CBR1K..that means I'm getting raped for $600.

I sent a letter to fuckin Perwinkle and I'm still looking to see who my cook county board rep is so I can call and let him have it.

This is nothing short of robbery. Now a responsible person who might not be very well off and decides to buy a cheap used car for $500 has to pay $175 at the very minimum. Fuckin Cook County I cant wait to move the hell out of here.

PS - Stop using this bullshit to attack Obama, he has no say in cook county. Please.

^^^ I saw a post on CL that states that it doesn't apply to motorcycles. I have not confirmed this and everthing I look at from the county say very clearly MOTOR VEHICLE...That includes motorcycles. Be cautious about not paying...the penalty for a first offense is a $1000 fine.
I've talked with a Government relations specialist at the AMA about this. I'll post more about this later but, for now make sure you politely let your Cook County Board rep know how unhappy you are with this tax and that it is unfair...especially to those who are struggling to make ends meet and need basic transportation to earn a livimg!

Yep. I was trying too but no account number works. They wanted $1 extra for online fees and I was fine with that. But nothing works in this broke county so I sent the check.

They made rules to protect ur stupidity and carelessness. County doesn't have to tell u what u owe at the date u register it. Kinda like how we pay state taxes at the end of year. From a non legal eagle point of view, I don't see much way to argue. The use of the term "home rule" implies they can do what they want regardless of state and city.
