Supermoto racer magazine had an article on converting a stock dirtbike to a supermoto bike for cheap. Check out the scans below.

If you got a dirtbike already why not do a cheap conversion and try it out. You could always sell the parts later if you don't have fun. (trust me you will)

No this is more about $25 dollar track days, tires that last all season and bikes that crash, you pick them up dust yourself off and keep riding it.

That would require reading. I understand Joyce but put tech article in front of me it might as well be in Sanskrit. And anytime I attempt to turn a wrench for anything other than routine maintenance my bike shakes with fear.
