Chills, if you have blown multiple PS, make sure you have your computer connected to a good surge protector. I had a spike come through once that fried my power supply instantly because I had a crappy surge protector.

I've got a really good surge protector. My Xbox is connected to it as well as a few other important things.

I'll be making a Fry's run in a little bit. I found the receipt. Hopefully that's all it is. The PS is a lot easier to swap out than a mobo.

EDIT: Fry's says I'll have to go through Antec since it's been more than 30 days since I bought it.

Yes it is, just in case, get that XP CD ready :laughing.

Bite your tongue, Ron! lol

I submitted the warranty form to Antec. Now I probably have to wait a month to get this resolved.

At least I have the Xbox. :)

Thanks for the help, guys. :cheers

The old PSU is pretty old and won't power the new mobo, cpu, and graphics card.

Everything was working perfectly a few weeks ago. I haven't touched the PC until now and it won't turn on. Very odd, isn't it?
did you put the plug back into the wall outlet that she who will go unnamed took out to use for her vacuum cleaner? :jester

I know you said it worked before, I am just curious. What is the watt rating on the PS?

To use a voltmeter, turn the knob to DC voltage. DC is indicated by a straight line and a dotted line. A/C shows a sign wave. To check the voltage between two points in a circuit, put the black lead on one point and the red lead on the other. It really doesn't matter which, the only difference is that it will show a negative voltage which doesn't usually matter. For the power supply, put the black lead on the black wire on the main power supply connector. Put the red wire on the other wires. Yellow = 12V, Red = 5V, Orange = -5V, Blue is -12V. As long as the black lead is on the black wire, the minus signs will match up.

Sometimes power supplies have their own on/off switches. I'd check for that also.

The PSU power supply won't send current to the peripheral plugs, so hard rives and fans will not 'make a noise' until the motherboard-controlled soft power switch tells the PSU to 'go live'.

I've seen plenty of dead mobos in the past, but odds are typically it's the PSU.

The real question is what is the root cause? Just how recently did you upgrade components? Any power outages/spikes/brown outs lately?

get a Mac

Leopard is cool

:rofl
This will probably be the last time I mess with this PC. I barely use it as it is, mainly for iTunes and Microsoft Money. I do think my next computer will be a Mac.

Are you talking about Helga, our gorgeous Norwegian live-in maid??? :confused

400W. I know that's not a big PSU, but it was powering the system perfectly since January.

Thanks, AoD. I haven't used one since Physics back in college. I really should own one.

Yep, this has one. It's right next to where the power cable plugs into it. It's on.

Right, but the PSU should have some activity when plugged in or turned on, right?

I've had a few dead components in the past, but everything was working perfectly. I did the upgrade back in January, so its been 10 months of perfect working PC before now. The PC was up in the "office" until 7 months ago when I moved it do the living room and hooked it up to the flatscreen TV.

As I mentioned before, it's on a very good power strip, along with my TV, XBox, and router. If there was a power surge wouldn't it have affected these electronics, too?

Very odd.

I have actually had a power surge only take out my PSU and every other component attached to the strip unharmed "s*** happens" :laughing.

We had a bad power cord on a pc the other day,
1st one I've seen in awhile andit looked normal as well.

I would unplug everything except what was necessary internally.
cards drives anything that is not necessary for it to POST

then try to get it going.
sometimes a bad component can keep the voltages low enough to where it won't start.

after that I would look at power supply mb etc.

UPDATE: I sent in the PSU to Antec, it was still under warranty. They sent me an upgraded model. I slapped that bad-boy in my PC and it works fine now.

Thanks for the help, everyone. :thumbsup

I read this whole thread...it's all geek to me:twofinger I would have just bought another one:D
:laughing that is the Ducati way, a Zuk and Kawi man fixes their machine themselves :lmao: .
