I'll probably do that run, it will be my first.
The only reason I say probably is because I hurt my knee running yesterday, I hope it doesn't become a problem, or take too long to heal. I've never had knee pain issues before so I don't know what to expect.
Cool. Just take it easy on the running. Really ease into it. Don't overdo it...really build up to some longer mileage. I don't know how much you're doing but if you just started recently I wouldn't advise going further than 1 or 3 miles (at most). Honestly, do much shorter runs where you are still fresh....that way the body doesn't get shocked from the activity. It may sound weird to go out and do a 1/2 mile or 1 mile jog/run but if you want to run for the long term...injury prevention or body sustenance is key. A really short run (where you are still relatively fresh) is not going to hold you back. There are 7 days in a week so plan 'em accordingly. Definitely check out
www.halhigdon.com for advice and develop a plan leading up to the Pumpkin race. Your body is going to have to adjust to the new glory of running. The pain may not necessarily be bad knees but moreso mal training. People that say they can't run because of there knees ("I've got bad knees") aren't training right. I just don't buy that. If anything, they just need to adjust there training accordingly (if they really do have a medical condition directly tied to the impact associated with running). If someone just starts running and tries to run 5 miles...heck yeah, their knees are going to hurt - mine would too. And then they give up. So, read up at Hal Higdon and come up with a plan and stick with it. But most importanly, have fun

Glad to see you running and taking care of yourself. You're gonna love it.
