At the suggestion and request of Spyder84 (Erik Rodriguez), we are putting together a Tech Day to help with basic maintenance and learning more about your bike. For back ground Erik started a thread which led to this event getting formed.

In the interest of organization, I am starting this new thread that is specific to the March 24th event. Items not related the 24th event should continue in Erik's thread.

We have a month until Blackhawk, the first midwest NESBA date. I would suggest also perhaps doing a list of the types of work to be done and perhaps what is needed. This event is for Track AND Street bikes.

Examples:
Change Oil & Filter - bring oil & filter
Change & Balance Tires - bring fresh rubber
Chain Adjustment
Change Brake Pads - bring new brake pads
Change/Bleed Brake Fluid - bring high quality replacement brake fluid
Change Brake lines - bring lines, banjo bolts, and fluids
Adjust / Prep Chain
520 Conversion - Bring 520 chain, and 520 front/rear sprockets
Suspension Set-Up - Baseline Sag, etc...
Fiberglass Work - Bring fiberglass and the activator (and plastics spoons/popsickle sticks/tongue depressors)
Body work - bondo, etc... and sanding disks
Paint prep - above, plus appropriate sand paper
Safety wiring your bike
Track Prep bike
Practice Tech run a bike for the track

Plus whatever simple items folks can think of that need to be done for the season. (track or street)

Outside the house of course, assuming that weather allows. Feel free to come even if you are not in need of work, just to meet and perhaps help some of your fellow CLSBers!

DETAILS

Ok, so I'll start to keep a running list of who says they are coming, and what they need. Please post corrections to this list and I'll update it.

Location:

Winks House
(Near 59 & 90)
I'll PM address & phone to all coming prior to the event, (not gonna post it on a Google searched site)

Date: March 24th (rain date is March 31st)
Start Time: 10am
We'll go until we are done, then we can drink, play pool.... poker, whatever. (drinking may start before we are done)

We can test-tech any bikes that will be going to the track as well. This event is for street and/or track bikes.

Please post up additions and subtractions to this list as I know that you may want more done, or you may or may not be able to make the event. I did not include some of you since I wasn't sure if you were going to this date/event or another. Please jsut post up if I should add, subtract or change anything or anyone.

PLEASE NOTE: Each person bringing a bike is responsible for his/her damages/improper servicing that could result in an injury. For liability purposes, work will be done by the bike owners, and they solely will be responsible for their own bikes.

Addition: Tire Changing Tutorials using my Tire Changer
May want to watch a couple of these before coming over. Feel free to watch these videos so that you are ready to change and balance your own tires:

You'll love how fast and easy it is. Of course... here it is in 21 seconds to change a tire!

I would like to kindly offer my services in the screwdriver making department. This is an often overlooked area of motorcycle maintenance that requires extreme diligence, especially in the area of flash pasteurized orange juice (not from concentrate)

Specific points of emphasis will include:

proper temperatures
beverage container specs
setting drinker sag
ice to drink ratios
and of course, the importance of Skyy Vodka versus non-Skyy Vodka

mark your calendars ... and your livers.
Sklossmonster!

Finding the Edge of Traction is the name of the game!!

Love ta have ya Marshall, now I know that this event will last into the night, looking fwd to it, bro! Bring your more important half and Yuri and Will/Kristin as well if ya can.

Come on over and join us then. Watch out for Marshall though, his Vodka to Mixer ratio is off by quite a bit...

finally got a chance to log on....but i'm glad this worked out and i'm really looking forward to learning and hanging out.

just addin to what i plan on doing (pending UPS doesnt fail me on shipping and there is enough time in the day)
-replace clip-ons
-replace engine case covers
-replace brake lines
-replace rearsets
-replace fork oil and set up suspension
-replace tires
-safety wire bike
Looong day for you Erik!

You can most likely get all that done other than the fork oil.

Brian....put me down as a maybe...found out today I might have to work the 24th. I might be able to get out of it but I will confirm in a few days. Tires are on their way.
Just come when you get off work, Ash. If you can't work on bikes, at least you can drink!

Talked to FATTKAW...... He's coming with me.

Need to PM me directions Brian as I am a moron and lost them.

Tom
Sounds great Tom, I'll PM address and directions at the end of the week so I only have to do it once for everyone. 10-15 minutes from your house max Tom, straight north on 59.

I can help wrench and bring the Snap-on tools like torque wrench and such.. For Front change that I saw on here I could bring some of the tools to take the fronts apart and oil level gauge as long as you have the service manual.
It's be great to have ya Jon.

Discussion starter · #54 ·
Sounds like you're going to have 20 bikes in 1000 peices all over your driveway Wink

I can come over and help you clean up the mess.... And drink Marshalls highly refined screwdrivers of course.

How long will it take me to get the bump to advance in screwdriver making?
Thanks for coming Nick, it'll be good to see ya again. I haven't seen ya since ACC North that one time.

that's really cool that you guys are doing this and I would've loved to come cause I don't know squat about working on bikes and I would love to get some experience. Unfortunately I won't be getting back from spring break vacation til Saturday night. It's great to see so many willing to help out.
So come over after you get back and meet everyone. It sounds like we'll be here late

Discussion starter · #61 ·
Since you already have got a ton of experienced help, Kim and I may come up to hang out and soak up some info.
It's be great to see you both, you know the way here, so come over!

Added Grouch, KimF4i, Nolan1300, JRock and Bikeguy.
