My worry is that it(teknic 7) would be like strapping a ironing board to your back. no flexibility, maybe to big and long.

It seems to me that, even though it is the cheapest. It looks like the 7 link protects more area of your back. The est of the back protectors have gaps of foam pad. The Teknic just looks like it would protect more.

Lupi has the teknic7 so I'll ask him. I have the teknic 4 (which I forgot to strap on today :nono ) it isn't very flexible, I'll tell you that. But the plastic spines would be more likely to stop punctures. Downside is they probably don't absorb impact as well as the others.

Tricktape has Joe Rocket's Quasimoto (similar to the Teknic7) for $70. Could be another option..

I may go with my original thought. Why buy Garbage? Go with the Dianese.

(although for $44 I was tempted and would have gone through with the deal only to find out it sucks and i would turn around to sell to someone for $10)

seriously though. don't take anybody's word for gear like this. stop in a store and check it out and determine for yourself if this is adequate for you

OK Ernie, I get the clue and you get me outta post retirement for this one!


I(and Champ) both have the 7pc Tecnic. I have to admit, that I do like the feel of it. Of course I like the peace of mind of having the extra protection. I've dumpped and flipped myself with nothing but a jacket on, and having one of these might have saved me the three cracked ribs I received as a result.

Now, I don't go riding without it, it is an essential part of my gear. It is comfortable, and flexible enough to not feel obtrusive. It took a little getting used to, but mostly only in the 1pc leather suit. And that's only because there is a lot less room in the suit.

Only thing I dislike, is no over the shoulder attachment. Putting jackets on is sometimes a pain the rear since they get caught on the top of the back protector. Other than that, I really like this.
